Chinese-owned iron ore miner Shougang Hierro Peru does not have a deadline for restarting operations at its pellet plant, general manager Raul Vera told BNamericas.
On Wednesday, Shougang announced that it was temporarily suspending operations at the plant.
"We don't have details on the timeframe, but we hope that it will be soon. We depend on the market, the demand for the products," Vera said.
The company transferred some of the workers at the plant to other operations, while other employees went on holidays, Shougang reported to securities regulator Conasev. It did not specify a reason for the temporary shutdown.
Shougang is Peru's only iron ore producer and operates at the Marcona mine in Ica
region.
